SC Orders CBI Inquiry into Deaths of Three Dalits in Madhya Pradesh
Share:

The Supreme Court has ordered the CBI to initiate a preliminary inquiry into the deaths of three members of the Dalit community in Sagar district, Madhya Pradesh. A bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Prasanna B Varale passed this order while hearing a petition alleging that the state police failed to conduct a fair and thorough investigation.

The case involves the deaths of a young man, his mother, and another family member following a series of disputes and alleged harassment. The petitioners argued that the local administration and police were shielding the accused, leading to a breakdown of trust in the state's investigative machinery.

The Apex Court noted the gravity of the allegations and the sensitive nature of the case, stating that a central agency's intervention is necessary to ensure justice and transparency. The CBI has been directed to submit its preliminary findings to the court within a specified timeframe.
