Delhi Court Grants Bail To ‘The Skin Doctor’ Arrested Over Social Media Post Against Priya Kapur

A Delhi court has granted bail to social media influencer and dermatologist Dr. Neelam Singh, popularly known online as “The Skin Doctor,” who was arrested by the Delhi Police over a controversial social media post concerning Priya Kapur, widow of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur. The bail order was passed late Wednesday night by Judicial Magistrate Snehil Sharma of the Patiala House Court after the influencer was produced before the court following his arrest by the Delhi Police.

According to reports, the case arose after a complaint was lodged by Priya Kapur at Delhi’s Vasant Kunj Police Station alleging that certain posts and tweets made by Dr. Singh were false, defamatory, and targeted the Kapur family in the aftermath of Sunjay Kapur’s death. The controversial posts reportedly questioned the circumstances surrounding the businessman’s death and also referred to issues relating to inheritance and estate disputes within the family.

Dr. Neelam Singh is a well-known dermatologist and political commentator who has built a substantial social media presence across platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and YouTube under the moniker “The Skin Doctor.” His arrest quickly drew significant attention online due to his large follower base and the high-profile nature of the allegations involving the Kapur family.

During the late-night hearing before the Patiala House Court, the Delhi Police sought two days of custodial interrogation of the accused. However, counsel appearing for Dr. Singh argued that he was willing to cooperate fully with the investigation and undertook to provide his mobile phone to the investigating authorities after retrieving personal data stored on the device. Lawyers present during the hearing stated that the accused was produced before the magistrate around 9:40 PM, and the bail order was pronounced approximately an hour later.

While granting bail, the Court reportedly observed that no useful purpose would be served by keeping the accused in further custody at this stage of the investigation. The magistrate therefore allowed the bail plea and directed the release of Dr. Singh subject to conditions imposed by the Court.

The controversy has reignited debate around the boundaries of free speech on social media, particularly in cases involving public figures and sensitive personal tragedies. Legal commentators have pointed out that courts increasingly face the difficult task of balancing the right to freedom of expression with protections against defamation, harassment, and dissemination of unverified allegations online. रिपोर्ट्स के अनुसार, यह मामला प्रिया कपूर द्वारा दिल्ली के वसंत कुंज पुलिस स्टेशन में दर्ज कराई गई शिकायत से जुड़ा है। शिकायत में आरोप लगाया गया कि डॉ. सिंह द्वारा सोशल मीडिया पर किए गए कुछ पोस्ट और ट्वीट झूठे, मानहानिकारक और कपूर परिवार को निशाना बनाने वाले थे। विवादित पोस्ट में कथित तौर पर संजय कपूर की मृत्यु की परिस्थितियों पर सवाल उठाए गए थे और परिवार के भीतर उत्तराधिकार तथा संपत्ति विवाद से जुड़े मुद्दों का भी उल्लेख किया गया था।

डॉ. नीलम सिंह एक प्रसिद्ध त्वचा रोग विशेषज्ञ और राजनीतिक टिप्पणीकार हैं, जिन्होंने X (पूर्व में ट्विटर), इंस्टाग्राम और यूट्यूब जैसे सोशल मीडिया प्लेटफॉर्म्स पर “द स्किन डॉक्टर” नाम से बड़ी लोकप्रियता हासिल की है। उनकी गिरफ्तारी ने सोशल मीडिया पर व्यापक चर्चा को जन्म दिया क्योंकि उनके लाखों फॉलोअर्स हैं और मामला एक हाई-प्रोफाइल परिवार से जुड़ा हुआ है।

पटियाला हाउस कोर्ट में देर रात हुई सुनवाई के दौरान दिल्ली पुलिस ने आरोपी की दो दिन की पुलिस हिरासत की मांग की थी। हालांकि, डॉ. सिंह की ओर से पेश वकीलों ने कहा कि वह जांच में पूरा सहयोग करने के लिए तैयार हैं और अपने मोबाइल फोन से निजी डेटा सुरक्षित करने के बाद उसे जांच एजेंसियों को सौंप देंगे। अदालत में मौजूद वकीलों के अनुसार, आरोपी को लगभग रात 9:40 बजे मजिस्ट्रेट के समक्ष पेश किया गया और करीब एक घंटे बाद जमानत आदेश सुनाया गया।

जमानत देते हुए अदालत ने कथित तौर पर कहा कि इस चरण में आरोपी को आगे हिरासत में रखने से कोई उपयोगी उद्देश्य पूरा नहीं होगा। इसके बाद मजिस्ट्रेट ने कुछ शर्तों के साथ डॉ. सिंह की जमानत याचिका मंजूर कर ली।

इस विवाद ने एक बार फिर सोशल मीडिया पर अभिव्यक्ति की स्वतंत्रता की सीमाओं को लेकर बहस छेड़ दी है, विशेषकर तब जब मामला सार्वजनिक हस्तियों और संवेदनशील व्यक्तिगत घटनाओं से जुड़ा हो। कानूनी विशेषज्ञों का मानना है कि अदालतों के सामने अब यह चुनौती बढ़ती जा रही है कि वे अभिव्यक्ति की स्वतंत्रता और मानहानि, उत्पीड़न तथा अपुष्ट आरोपों के प्रसार के बीच संतुलन कैसे स्थापित करें। यह गिरफ्तारी इस बात को भी दर्शाती है कि डिजिटल इन्फ्लुएंसर्स और सोशल मीडिया कमेंटेटर्स की गतिविधियों पर अब अधिक कानूनी निगरानी रखी जा रही है।

यह मामला इसलिए भी महत्वपूर्ण माना जा रहा है क्योंकि यह संजय कपूर की मृत्यु के बाद सामने आए कथित संपत्ति और उत्तराधिकार विवादों के बीच उभरा है। प्रिया कपूर ने लगातार यह दावा किया है कि सोशल मीडिया पर प्रसारित किए गए आरोप पूरी तरह मनगढ़ंत और भ्रामक हैं। वहीं, कपूर परिवार और संपत्ति विवाद से संबंधित अन्य कानूनी कार्यवाहियां पहले से ही उच्च न्यायालयों में चर्चा का विषय बनी हुई हैं, जिससे इस मामले में सार्वजनिक रुचि और बढ़ गई है।

फिलहाल, दिल्ली पुलिस की जांच जारी है और जांच एजेंसियां सोशल मीडिया पोस्ट, इलेक्ट्रॉनिक डिवाइस और अन्य डिजिटल साक्ष्यों की जांच कर रही हैं। अदालत द्वारा दी गई जमानत का अर्थ आरोपों पर अंतिम निर्णय नहीं है और प्रिया कपूर द्वारा दर्ज कराई गई शिकायत की जांच कानून के अनुसार आगे बढ़ती रहेगी।
