BCI has uncovered fraudulent law degrees from Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut

The Bar Council of India (BCI) has uncovered 13 fraudulent law degrees from Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, triggering a nationwide effort to address fake enrollments. 

It has instructed all State Bar Councils to accelerate the process of verifying advocates on their rolls, with cases of fraudulent enrollment to be forwarded to the BCI under Section 26(1) of the Advocates Act, 1961. 

Failure to comply will be deemed a dereliction of duty and could result in dissolution under Rule 32 of the BCI Rules. 

Additionally, the Supreme Court, in Ajay Shankar Srivastava v. BCI, has formed a High-Powered Committee to supervise the verification of advocates.
